Hello Chapter 37

maari0303

Have you ever just sat for a minute and looked back over your life and wonder….where has the time gone? Well this was me on Sunday. I was in amazement that I have been on this earth for 37 years. I then started to think about how my husband just celebrated his 20-year mark in the military. ALONG with how many birthdays he has missed! This birthday for me was truly special, because it was one of the first birthdays we shared as a family in years.

Being the AMAZING spouse that I am (yes, I used all caps for amazing), I start to become used to my husband not being there for my birthdays. We seemed to always find ourselves apart due to military duty. Me and the kids were planning on doing something without him, until he reassured me that he would finally be able to share a birthday with me. See in the past we have made plans to do dinner, parties, etc. and BAM! He is being called away on military duty. I am not going to sit here like I took it all in stride when he canceled, because that would be a LIE! It made me angry, frustrated, and take it out on him. Even though it was beyond his control, it still did not stop the loneliness on my birthday. Look at me sounding like a little girl having a tantrum! Hey, I get it and understand its part of the job, BUT it still hurts knowing there is distance between you on special days. This year it seems like lady luck came my way and allowed me to share my birthday with my husband. As a military spouse that’s major, because we must understand that having our husbands home every day is not promised.

Over the years I've learned not to dwell on the things I cannot change and focus on the here and now.

Chapter 37 is looking mighty good, and I’m so blessed that God has allowed me to see this day. I am excited for what this year may bring, and how I will further grow as a mother, wife, sister, and friend. I feel the best years are ahead of me! Also known as RETIREMENT! LoL…. Please leave a comment if you also experienced not having your spouse home for birthdays, or any special holidays. I would love to hear from you.
